Welcome to an irreverent, not-at-all comprehensive blog about my couponing exploits in Montgomery County, Maryland, with some annoying cats sprinkled about. Try not to step on them; they get ever so cross. Also there may be some law stuff here and there, but not too much, because most law stuff is boring.

If bored, feel free to follow me on Twitter @madcatdisease

Awesome Gift Card Promo at Safeway; Plus This Week's Best Harris Teeter Deals

So there's a crazy good deal at Safeway until 12/3: Buy $150 in qualifying gift cards and receive a $25/$50 coupon on your next shopping trip.

From the Safeway ad:

"Participating gift cards include iTunes®, Google Play, Regal Entertainment Group®, Lowe's®, Gap Inc, Amazon.com, Toys "R" Us®, AMC Theatres®, Best Buy®, Staples®, JCPenney®, Macy's®, Sephora®, Petco®, Red Lobster(TM), Buffalo Wild Wings®, TGI Friday's(SM), SpaFinders® Wellness, Bath & Body Works®, PetSmart®, Michaels®, Starbucks®, Microsoft®, Sports Authority, Nike, Olive Garden®, Brinker International®, Forever 21®, Kohl's®, IHOP®, The Children's Place® and Charming Shoppes. The merchants represented are not sponsors of the Safeway holiday Gift Card Event or otherwise affiliated with Safeway, Inc.
When you buy $150 worth of participating Gift Cards+. *$25 coupon will be provided at checkout, valid on your next qualified purchase of $50 or more. VALID 11/20-12/3 +Restrictions and exclusions apply; See terms and conditions in-store. While supplies last. No rain checks. One offer per transaction. Subject to availability. See gift cards for details, terms, conditions and (if applicable) fees. Gift Cards cannot be used to purchase gift cards. All trademarks are property of their respective owners."

The exclusions on using the coupon are fairly standard: no lottery tickets, newspapers, alcohol, cigarettes, etc. The only exclusion that would have affected me was no liquid dairy products, so no milk, half and half, etc. Non-dairy creamers/milk should be fine.

So I purchased $300 in qualifying gift cards in two separate transactions yesterday. I plan to do most of my shopping on Amazon this year (working on Black Friday, booooo), so I just used the gift cards I purchased toward some of those purchases. Also many restaurant cards are included, so if you're going out to eat anytime soon, this would be a good time to stock up!

Also, I didn't even think about this until afterwards: I received gas points! I received in total 12 gas points rewards (100 points = 1 reward; 1 reward =$0.10 off per gallon; you can use up to 10 rewards total at once to save $1.00 per gallon), which was really high; The official amount you receive for each $1 spent on gift cards is 2 points, so I should have earned 600 points, which would have been 6 gas rewards. I must have had a promotion saved to my Safeway iPhone app that doubled the amount I earned. So be sure to save that promotion to your account (if it's still available to add).

So here's the really great part of all of this that's entirely specific to Olney, MD: In Olney, there are four grocery stores on the same block. Insane, I know. The competition's fierce, so they all take each other's coupons. As y'all should know by now, my grocery store of choice is Harris Teeter. With all the half-price sales and e-Vic specials, as well as their coupon-friendly policies, it's just the best grocery store for a couponer in this area, IMHO. So I took my two $25/$50 coupons there and completed two transactions, where I saved 78% on my total grocery bill after all sales, coupons and rebates! Squee!!!

Below are what I consider to be the best deals at Harris Teeter this week (through Tuesday). Of course I'm not including everything I purchased (which added up to $233 total shelf price). It included filet mignon (on sale) and fancy cheddar cheese (not on sale), though. I'm so fat...

ANYWHO, here are the best of the deals this week. Note the expiration date on the P&G ZVRs: much earlier than usual (today!). Also, per usual a lot of the coupons I used are regional coupons that I ordered from Coupons by Dede or printed before they ran out of prints. So sorry about that. I don't typically print/order these coupons because of these particular upcoming sales; I print or order coupons regularly that have the potential to make for great deals. Sometimes I'm wrong, and many of the coupons end up in the recycling bin. But sometimes I'm right! Yay gambling!
