Welcome to an irreverent, not-at-all comprehensive blog about my couponing exploits in Montgomery County, Maryland, with some annoying cats sprinkled about. Try not to step on them; they get ever so cross. Also there may be some law stuff here and there, but not too much, because most law stuff is boring.

My Massive Sunday Haul, 10/27/13

Went to Walgreens for the first time in three months. I even checked my iPhone Walgreens app to confirm. Last visit was on July 26. Can't say I missed it much. Today I went to a brand new Walgreens that just opened up in Rockville, MD, so they were on their best behavior, which was nice, especially since I was a bit rusty. It is SO unnecessarily complicated to shop there with coupons.

The Venus razor I bought at CVS and the CoverGirl eye makeup I bought at Rite Aid both count toward the Spend $50 Receive $15.00 P&G Holiday Rebate. Now, this rebate states that it will apply the cost you pay after coupons. That's easy enough for them to do at Rite Aid, which now itemizes the coupons along with the items you purchase (BOOOOOOO, Rite Aid), but I don't see how they can do that CVS, where all the coupons are listed at the end of the receipt. Unless they intend to count ALL coupons you use in the transaction against you, including drug store rewards. Ugh. Annoying much, P&G? We'll see what happens.

Speaking of annoying, CVS has apparently made some "upgrades" to its system that are aggravating couponers. One issue that I personally came across: Now when you scan a CVS coupon (such as the $1.00 Sobe coupon) or an Extra Buck, the cashier has to "verify" the coupon before it comes off your total. Not sure what they're verifying, exactly. The amount of the coupon? The product you're buying? I was worried for a second that they wouldn't take the $1.00 Sobe coupon for the $0.88 Life Water because of this, but two cashiers did take them at two separate stores. Go figure. The cashier may not bother to verify the coupons until the end of the transaction, so be prepared to mentally keep track of how much more should be coming off. Also, I would recommend asking the cashier to verify the CVS coupons before handing over the Extra Bucks; otherwise, you may accidentally go over your balance, which would just cause an obnoxious mess.

The other issue that I did not personally run across but other people are reporting: Trouble using their % off coupons with items that produce Extra Bucks, or while redeeming Extra Bucks. I used a % off coupon today and didn't experience either problem. Everything worked just like it was supposed to. Some are surmising that it could be affected by the order in which you hand over your coupons. This is how I have always done it: $x/$y CVS coupon if you have one, then CVS coupons (such as the $1 off Sobe coupon), then manufacturer coupons, then a % off coupon if you have one, then Extra Bucks. This is what I did today (absent the $x/$y coupon), and it worked like gangbusters. Hopefully y'all won't have too much trouble.

Anywho, here's what I did today:
