Welcome to an irreverent, not-at-all comprehensive blog about my couponing exploits in Montgomery County, Maryland, with some annoying cats sprinkled about. Try not to step on them; they get ever so cross. Also there may be some law stuff here and there, but not too much, because most law stuff is boring.

My Massive Sunday Haul, 10/14/12

Sorry this is so late. I actually shopped on Monday as I just got back in town from vacation. I have to say that 20% Gold Discount at Rite Aid comes in quite handy; most of my deals this week involved it. Same with CVS and the 20% email coupon. The Rite Aid discount isn't that hard to earn; if you do all the great deals every week, you'll get it before the end of the year, believe me! I'm already up to almost 4,000 points this year! I WANT MOAR DISCOUNT! (Unfortunately 20% is the highest tier.) If you earn it this year, you get to keep it for 2013! Then you have to earn it again in 2013 to get it in 2014.

Also, if you haven't already signed up for the CVS Beauty Club, what's wrong with you?! Freak. For every $50 you spend BEFORE COUPONS, you get free $5 Extra Bucks. I usually get at least two of these a month. I got $10 alone for the crazy Pantene deal a couple of weeks ago! I don't count these rewards (or the ones I get for having my Green Bag Tag scanned) in my savings calculations because it would just complicate things, as I typically earn them over more than one trip cumulatively. But if I did count them, my savings would probably end up closer to 100%! But I do count them in my "What I actually spent" when I use them - for instance, this time I used a $5 Beauty Club reward and 2 $1 Green Bag Tag rewards to pay for the Hershey's and the Michum this week, which basically means I got those for almost free.

One note about the Beauty Club and Green Bag Tag rewards: You don't want to use them with a % off coupon if at all possible. This is because they scan in as "CVS coupons" instead of "CVS manufacturer coupons" and as a result are treated as a discount rather than a coupon. The % off coupon calculates its % after all "discounts" (including CVS coupons) are deducted. This also applies to forced print rewards (rewards the cashier/manager has to print manually for you) and coupons that take off $10/$50 purchase, as an example.
