Welcome to an irreverent, not-at-all comprehensive blog about my couponing exploits in Montgomery County, Maryland, with some annoying cats sprinkled about. Try not to step on them; they get ever so cross. Also there may be some law stuff here and there, but not too much, because most law stuff is boring.

How I took advantage of the CVS free item deal this week - two scenerios!

In case you haven't noticed, CVS has done away with its Spend $30/Receive $10 gift card promotion and replaced it with a lamer Spend $30/Receive a free mediocre item promotion. Whatever. I've been ignoring this promotion, as it's typically stupid. But I had some Extra Bucks to burn on our cards, as we're about to go on vacation. So I decided to dig through my coupon binders and fan-dangle two ways of doing this week's deal (Spend $30 on select PG products, receive a free 8-pack of Bounty Basic towels, Limit 1 per card). Most of the coupons that I ended up using came from previously purchased packages of Proctor & Gamble (PG) products, such as Align and Crest toothpaste. So check those binders!

Here's what I came up with:

 Scenerio 1:

- Bought 3 Secret Outlast $3.99 each, regularly $5.99 each
Used 3 $1.00/1 manufacturer coupons from PG 4/29
And used 2 $1.00/1 CVS coupons from magic coupon machine (printed off two days in a row)
$6.97 ($2.32 each) for 3

* If you scan your card THREE days in a row (and it keeps printing), then that would be an extra buck off! *

- Bought 2 Pantene 25.4 oz Shampoo/Conditioner $5.99 each, regularly $7.49 each
Used 1 BOGO manufacturer coupon from PG 4/29 (only took off maximum value of $4.99)
And used 1 $1.00/1 manufacturer coupon from inside previous PG packaging
$5.99 ($3.00 each) for 2

- Bought 2 Crest 3D White toothpaste $2.99 each, regularly $4.69 each
Used 2 $1.00/1 manufacturer coupons from inside previous PG packaging
And used 2 $1.00/1 CVS coupons from magic coupon machine (printed off two days in a row)
$1.98 ($0.99 each) for 2

- Bought 2 Puffs tissue $0.99 each, regularly $1.99 each
Used 1 $1.00/2 manufacturer coupon from inside previous PG packaging
$0.98 ($0.49 each) for 2

- Bought 1 Bounty Basic Towels 8-pack $0, regularly $8.39
Used 1 $1.00/1 manufacturer coupon from PG 4/1 (now expired)
or $1.00/1 manufacturer coupon from inside previous PG packaging
 -$1.00

$31.98 sale price total - $16.99 coupons = $14.99 total paid for all 10 products.

Scenerio 2:

- Bought 4 Pantene 25.4 oz Shampoo/Conditioner $5.99 each, regularly $7.49 each
Used 2 BOGO manufacturer coupons from PG 4/29 (only took off maximum value of $4.99 each)
And used 2 $1.00/1 manufacturer coupons from inside previous PG packaging
$11.98 ($3.00 each) for 4

- Bought 1 Crest Pro-Health toothpaste $2.99, regularly $4.69
Used 1 $1.00/1 manufacturer coupons from inside previous PG packaging
And used 1 $1.00/1 CVS coupon from magic coupon machine
$0.99

- Bought 1 Gillette Odor Shield $3.99, regularly $5.99
Used 1 $1.00/1 manufacturer coupon from PG 4/1 (now expired)
And used 1 $1.00/1 CVS coupon from magic coupon machine
$1.99

- Bought 1 Bounty Basic Towels 8-pack $0, regularly $8.39
Used 1 $1.00/1 manufacturer coupon from PG 4/1 (now expired)
or $1.00/1 manufacturer coupon from inside previous PG packaging
 -$1.00

 $30.94 sale price total - $16.98 coupons = $13.96 total for all 7 products

Overall, I wouldn't recommend doing this deal unless you really need the products or you have Extra Bucks that are about to expire. Another coupon that could make for a good price with this deal - the $5.00 Priolsec manufacturer coupon that was found in Align packaging (I think - it's hard to keep up with which coupons came out of which boxes!)
