Welcome to an irreverent, not-at-all comprehensive blog about my couponing exploits in Montgomery County, Maryland, with some annoying cats sprinkled about. Try not to step on them; they get ever so cross. Also there may be some law stuff here and there, but not too much, because most law stuff is boring.

Another Walgreens trip: Combining couponing with convenience purchases

Despite my wily couponing ways, I still find myself time to time having to buy crap on the fly. Like today with my neverending headache and no pain relievers to be found. DOH! Do you have any idea how much free or almost free pain killers I have at home?! But I'm not AT home. I'm at WORK. Ack. I also needed (YES NEEDED) a vitamin water. (I drank the one I bought; the one in the photo's just for show) And toilet bowl cleaners. Don't ask. So I went to Walgreens, where I would need fillers to use my register rewards anyway, to minimize the trauma caused from having to actually pay for such necessities.

Transaction 1:

- Bought 1 Clorox Toilet Wand Refill Set, 10 count $7.89, regular price

- Bought 1 Natrol Melatonin, 100 ct. $4.00, regularly $10.49
Buy 1, Receive $4.00 Register Reward, Limit 1 per transaction
Paid $4.00, Received $4.00 Register Reward
Final Price: Free

- Bought 2 Stride gum, 14 piece $0.69 each, regularly $1.29 each
With in ad coupon, limit 3
Used 1 $1.00/2 Stride Single Packs from SS 2/12
Final Price: $0.38 ($0.19 each) for 2

- Used 1 $10.00 Register Reward and 1 $2.00 Register Reward from previous trip

Paid $0.27 + $0.63 sales tax = $0.90, received 1 $4.00 Register Reward

Transaction 2:

- Bought 1 Renew Life Ultimate Flora Daily Care Probiotic, 630 ct $10.00, regularly $24.99
Buy 1, Receive $10.00 Register Reward, Limit 1 per transaction
Used 1 $3.00/1 Internet printable PDF coupon (no longer available for download)
Paid $7.00, Received $10.00 Register Reward
Final Price: $3.00 MONEYMAKER

- Bought 1 Hyland Thin Mints, 5oz $0.79, regularly $1.29 (filler)

- Used 1 $4.00 Register Reward from Transaction 1

Paid $3.79 + $0.05 sales tax =  $3.84, received 1 $10.00 Register Reward

BOGO 50%
Final Price: $5.68 ($2.84 each) for 2

- Used 1 $10.00 Register Reward from Transaction 2 and 1 $2.00 Register Reward from previous trip

Paid $1.68 (no sales tax), received $8.00 Register Reward

Transaction 4:

- Bought 1 Natrol Melatonin, 100 ct. $4.00, regularly $10.49
Buy 1, Receive $4.00 Register Reward, Limit 1 per transaction
Paid $4.00, Received $4.00 Register Reward
Final Price: Free

- Bought 1 Vitamin Water $1.69, regular price

- Used 2 $2.00 Register Rewards from previous trip

Paid $1.69 + $0.11 sales tax = $1.80, received $4.00 Register Reward

 $77.00  Shelf price
- 33.57  Discounts
-   4.00  Coupons
=39.43  Out of pocket cost
- 26.00  Register Rewards received
=13.43  (82.6% savings off shelf cost)

What I actually paid: $39.43 - $18.00 Register Rewards from previous trip - $14.00 Register Rewards from this trip + $0.79 sales tax = $8.22 paid out of pocket. Walked away with $12.00 in new Register Rewards (plus I still have $4.00 in rewards from Sunday!).
