Welcome to an irreverent, not-at-all comprehensive blog about my couponing exploits in Montgomery County, Maryland, with some annoying cats sprinkled about. Try not to step on them; they get ever so cross. Also there may be some law stuff here and there, but not too much, because most law stuff is boring.

My Massive Sunday Haul, 1/1/12

Today was a pretty good day! At least when it came to couponing. Not sure about everything else. I mean, I saw a bunch of emergency vehicles outside the Starbucks near Park Potomac as I was walking into Walgreens, and I heard something about an earthquake in Japan... But that's all I know of today's events. I WAS KINDA BUSY, ALL RIGHT!?

ANYWHO, here is what I bought today:

Rite Aid:

Used 1 $1.00/1 Gillette deodorant coupon from PG 1/1
And used 1 $1.00/1 Secret manufacturer coupon that I cut off a Crest toothpaste box awhile back.

Final Price: $9.98 ($4.99 each) for 2

If you sweat like we do, you understand why we're paying $5 a pop for this deodorant.

- Bought 1 Gillette Body Wash, $4.99 (not on sale), discounted 20% to $3.99 due to my Gold Member Status
Used 1 Free Gillette Body Wash when you buy 1 Gillette Deodorant coupon, up to $4.49 (not sure what I bought that had this coupon in it, but what a find!)
Final Price: FREE

Bought 1 Centrum Pro Nutrients, Omega 3 50 count $12.99/2 = $6.49
And bought 1 Centrum Pro Nutrients, Fruits and Veggies 50 count $11.99/2=$5.99

That was all they had in stock in the 50 count! They were still wiped out from the sale a few weeks back. After I took these last four off the shelf and was off sitting in the pharmacy area doing my calculations, this woman came in and started yelling at a cashier for not having any in stock. People, please don't be coupon bitcas. It makes the rest of us sweethearts look bad! (Click here to see WTF I mean by "bitca.")

(not sure if there's a limit - I was able to do it twice)
Used 2 $2.00/1 manufacturer coupons from SS 1/1 (since this coupon only applies to Almay cosmetic products, they could not be used on the eye makeup removers. So I was only able to use 2, one for each mascara)
Paid $9.98, And submitted for $2.00 Single Check Rebate (limit of 1)
Final Price: $7.98 ($1.99 each) for 4 products

Also counted as $25.96 toward Resolution Rewards! (surprisingly the Makeup Removers counted! At least I'm pretty sure they did. They must have, cause I got it!)

- Bought 4 Finish Quantum Tablets 10 count, $3.99 each

I had a raincheck for this item that made them BOGO! I was just waiting for the right coupons to come back out before I cashed it in.

Used 4 $1.00/1 manufacturer coupons from SS1 1/1
And used 2 $1.00/1 January Video Value coupons
Final price: $1.98 ($0.49 each) when you buy 4

Also, this counted as $15.96 toward the Resolutions Rewards!

$166.78 Total Shelf Price before any savings
- 58.02 Sales/discounts
- 56.99 Manufacturer and store coupons
=$51.77 Paid out of pocket
-$39.00 Up Rewards received (I received $9.00 for regular sales purchases, plus the $20.00 Resolutions Reward (spent total of $107.26 before discounts to qualify) and an unexpected $10.00 diabetes reward!)
=12.77
- 7.49 Single Check Rebates
$ 5.28 Final cost (96.8% savings)

96%. BAM! THAT'S HOW YOU DO IT!

What I actually spent: $51.77 OOP - $40 in pre-existing Up Rewards from last week - $4 in rewards from this week = $7.77 + $4.98 sales tax = $12.75 actually paid today. Walked away with $35 in Up Rewards for next week.

CVS:

I didn't have any $3/2 coupons left for the Nivea lip care deal. Boo hoo. MOVING ON.

Bought 9 Pantene Pro-V Shampoo, Conditioner, 12.6 oz or Styler, 5.7-11.5 oz, $3.33 each, regularly $5.79 each for the 7 detanglers and $4.99 each for the shampoo and conditioner
And bought 1 Pantene Pro-V 25 oz on clearance, $1.84, regularly $7.39 (not a part of the sale, but buying this one allowed me to use another $3/2 coupon)
Spend $30, Receive $10 CVS cash card, Limit 5 (NOTE: You can be a few cents away from $30 and still receive the reward)
Used 5 $3.00/2 Pantene products, excludes trial size, Limit 4 like coupons in same shopping trip from PG 1/1(I had to go to two stores anyway to complete the deal)
Paid $16.81, Received $10.00 CVS Cash Card
Final Price: $6.81 ($0.68 each) when you buy 9+1 clearance

Bought 1 Align Digestive Care Probiotic Supplement, 28 ct., $28.99, regularly $29.99
Buy 1, Receive $5.00 Extra Bucks, Limit 1
Used $3.00/1 Align Product, Limit 4 like coupons in same shopping trip from PG 1/1
Paid $25.99, Recieved $5.00 Extra Bucks
Final Price: $20.99

The Align came with $40 in P&G coupons!

Bought 3 L'oreal Excellence Creme/Root Rescues, $6.00 each, regularly $8.99 each
And bought 1 L'oreal Superior Preference, $9.99, not on sale (but included in the Extra Bucks promotion)
Spend $25 on any L'oreal Hair Care or Hair Color, Receive $10 Extra Bucks, Limit 1
Used 1 $5.00/2 L'oreal hair color manufacturer coupon from RP 1/1
And used 1 $2.00/1 L'oreal hair color manufacturer coupon from RP 1/1
And used 1 Free L'oreal hair color (up to $9.99) coupon mailed to me as part of the Buy 5 Get 1 free promotion
Paid $11.00, Received $10.00 Extra bucks
Final price: 1.00 ($0.25 each) when you buy 4

PRO TIP: I have had an issue before with cashiers wanting to apply a free item coupon to the cheapest item of that type in your transaction, e.g. applying the free hair color coupon to one of the $6.00 hair colors instead of the full price $9.99 one, ripping me off of the extra $3.99 I'm entitled to! So I bought the expensive hair color in a separate transaction from the others. That way, the cashier has no damn choice than to apply the full $9.99 discount to the transaction.

I couldn't find any more Head & Shoulders on clearance. BOOOOO.

$124.85 Total Shelf Price before any savings
- 36.06 Sales/discounts
- 34.99 Manufacturer and store coupons
=$53.80 Paid out of pocket
-$ 25.00 Extra Bucks/Cash Cards Received
=$28.80 Final cost (76.9% savings)

Ugh, Align is SO expensive. And no real freebies this week. So the savings falls under 80%. Sigh.

What I actually spent: $53.80 OOP - $31.99 in pre-existing ExtraBucks - $2.50 in pre-existing CVS gift cards - $15.50 in Extra Bucks from this week (including the whopping $0.50 reward I got from the quarterly Winter earnings!) = $3.81 + $3.38 sales tax = $7.19 actually paid today. Walked away with a $10 CVS cash card for next week.

Walgreens:

I'm going change things up a bit and split this one up by transactions.

Transaction 5:

CLEARANCE CLEARANCE CLEARANCE!

- Bought 2 Covergirl concealers on clearance, $2.19 and $1.09 (the BOGO 50% promotion applied!)
Used 2 $1.00/1 manufacturer coupons from SS 12/11

Used 1 $2.00 Register Reward

Don't know what the regular price was of everything else, but cumulatively it was $49.35

Paid $0.34 + $0.33 tax = $0.67

$111.67 Total Shelf Price before any savings
- 66.77 Sales/discounts
- 14.00 Manufacturer and store coupons
=30.90 Paid out of pocket
-29.00 Register Rewards Received
=$1.90 Final cost (98.2% savings)

Ooooooh yeah.

What I actually spent: $30.90 OOP - $10.00 in pre-existing Register Rewards- $14.00 in Register Rewards from this week = $6.90 + $0.33 sales tax = $7.23 actually paid today. Walked away with $15 in Register Rewards.

I still want to take advantage of a couple of Walgreens deals: The 42-count Align (with $50 in coupons inside!) and Sudafed deals. The Walgreens I went to was out of the Align, and apparently you have to get the Sudafed from behind the pharmacy counter. Lame.

So not quite done for the week. But here's my overall tally so far:

$403.30 Total Shelf Price before any savings
- 160.85 Sales/discounts
- 105.98 Manufacturer and store coupons
= 136.47 Paid out of pocket (but remember I paid most of that with previous rewards)
- 100.49 Rewards/Rebates Received or to be Received
=$35.98 Final cost (91% savings)

That's sure to go down once I get a hold of that 42-count Align, but oh well. I NEEDZ IT. Don't ask.

Overall I paid $27.17 cash out of my pocket, and I walked away with $50 in rewards and a $10 CVS cash card. Not bad for $400 worth of stuff!

  1. How much did that Picasso-like drawing of the cat run you?

  2. In the words of Peter Griffin, that drawing may be worth a million bucks to you, but to me it's worthless. Or vice versa. I JUST DON'T KNOW ANYMORE!!!
